Location
Neighborhood on the West Side of Manhattan, bounded to the south by West 14th Street and to the west by the Hudson River. The northern and eastern boundaries are difficult to define but correspond roughly to 30th Street and 6th Avenue. It comprehends Chelsea Piers, Hudson River Park, and the High Line.
Description
Chelsea is one of the fastest growing neighborhoods in Manhattan and it has become a melting pot of many cultures in recent years. Most of Chelsea is still industrialized, and the old High Line follows the River all through with historical brownstones, some well over 150 years old, still being used. There are more than 30 art galleries that are home to modern art from upcoming artists and respected artists alike in the Chelsea area.
Sixth Avenue was reborn as a shopper destination years ago when major retailers rediscovered the vast commercial spaces that formerly housed Ladies Mile. It has been transformed into a new 24/7 community with major new residential buildings and towers constructed. New development projects in Chelsea will change the skyline of Manhattan in the near future.
