Description

The neighborhood is named for DeWitt Clinton and occupies the highest ground in the area. Clinton Hill is a neighborhood of shingled, clapboard, brick, limestone and brownstone houses, interspersed with frame houses and mansions predating the Civil War. It is inhabited by a large number of artists, architects, photographers, and craftsmen and is racially diverse. There is a wide range in quality and pricing of housing, from elegant brownstones and mansions to inexpensive apartments for students. Designated a Historic District in 1981, Dekalb Avenue is the main thoroughfare.
